The exhibition is entitled “History Channel for the Public” to indicate the public perspective, diversified style and free thoughts of creative works on historical subjects. Furthermore, it emphasizes respect for the public (of which artists are an integral part)’s rights and creative passion to interpret and represent history as well as the free communication and propagation of such thoughts and creative works.

Preface
The exhibition is entitled “History Channel for the Public” to indicate the public perspective, diversified style and free thoughts of creative works on historical subjects. Furthermore, it emphasizes respect for the public (of which artists are an integral part)’s rights and creative passion to interpret and represent history as well as the free communication and propagation of such thoughts and creative works. The participating works demonstrate heterogeneous features in their various creative concepts, techniques and styles, which is exactly the contemporariness of works on historical subjects that we attempt to explore. Moreover, even the concept of “historical subject” has been re-defined here – in terms of view on time. Is there really an impassable gulf between historical subject and realistic subject? Besides the category of objects being represented has been re-defined too: why the existence and appearances of the ordinary people in an non-incidental context can only be placed on the edge of history stage? Some works on exhibition do touch the above sensitive issues.
One more important thing is, different from the frequent borrowing of historical images and symbols in the contemporary art scenario, this exhibition focuses on works on historical subject per se: the selection and valuation of historical subject, the creation of representative form and the integrality of artistic expression, etc. This is not simply the return of the familiar creative methods, but an exploration of the historical subject creation in the contemporary art on a new and free standpoint.
As for this exhibition, it is no doubt a fruit not yet mature due to its lack of nourishment supplied generously by the sky, the earth and the sunlight. However, in any case, I believe that the artists who participate in this exhibition have tried their best; I also believe that there must be someone among the visitors who can perceive the meaning in the context of the work, and feel grateful for its creator.
